How to lower your power and lighting bill

Lowering your overall power and lighting bill is fairly easy to do. There are a few things you can start doing today to lower your bill and some things you can try to do in the future.

The first thing you can do to lower your power and lighting bill is to unplug your appliance when not in use. When you keep appliances plugged in even when not in use, you are using some power that you’ll have to pay for. Unplugging your appliances can help save on your overall bill. Get into the habit of unplugging right after use.

Another thing you can do is to use your dryer less when you wash your clothes and use cold water. Using hot water will increase your electricity bill, and not using your dryer will lower your overall power usage. Try to dry your clothes for a few minutes, then let them air dry the rest of the way if you are new to air drying your clothes. Use cold water over hot water as well.

If you are looking for a freezer, consider getting a chest freezer. A standing freezer uses 10-25% more electricity, increasing your bill. If you have a standing freezer, consider getting a chest freezer when you need a new one.

Install dimmer switches in your house and use smart power strips. You can control how much electricity and lighting is used with dimmer switches and smart power strips. For example, you can set your smart power strips on a timer and turn it off when you’re not using what is plugged up into it. Dimmer switches allow you to set lower lighting and use less electricity.

Simple switches like this can really add up and help you lower your bills and save more money.
